The newly elected National Assembly will hold its first plenary sitting on 14 July 2009 at 10 am. The Assembly is convened by President Georgi Purvanov’s Decree issued in accordance with art.75 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria.
In conformity with art.76 of the Constitution the first plenary sitting will be opened by the eldest present member of parliament. At this first sitting members of parliament shall swear the following oath: “I swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria to observe the Constitution and the laws of the country and in all my actions to be guided by the interests of the people. I have sworn." They shall also elect the future Chairperson and Deputy Chairpersons of the National Assembly.
