The Member of Parliament Iva Miteva was elected President of the 45th National Assembly. Her candidacy was supported by 163 MPs, 75 abstained.
“It is with great excitement that I stand before you on this high platform because of the trust you place in me, I am aware of the responsibility and the expectations of all of us to find the right direction to respond to the challenges of today's complicated reality,” Iva Miteva noted in a statement immediately after her election as President of the Parliament. “Let us make efforts for a dialogue between us, for seeking good solutions, for a high parliamentary culture in order to be worthy representatives of the people,” she urged and congratulated all MPs for their election to the 45th National Assembly.
During the presentation of Iva Miteva's candidacy, the Chairman of the parliamentary group of “Ima Takav Narod” (“There Are Such People”) Toshko Yordanov noted that she was born in Razgrad, graduated from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in 1996, was transferred with the right of defence as a PhD student under the doctoral program of “Constitutional Law of the Republic of Bulgaria” at the Institute for the State and the Law at the BAS. Her professional experience began in 1998 in the Ministry of Justice, since 2000 she has been appointed to the National Assembly, where she went through all the steps of the parliamentary administration from expert to director of the “European Union Legislative Activities and Law” Directorate. She was a member of the expert teams for the drafting of proposals and discussion of amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. Since 2007 she has been actively involved in the drafting of amendments to the election laws as a member of the expert teams for drafting the Election Code and adopting a new Election Code. From 2017 to 2019 she was a lecturer in “Practical Legislation” in the Postgraduate Qualification Program of the Institute of Public Administration and Sofia University, a part-time lecturer in New Bulgarian University, the Department of Law.
