On its plenary sitting on 15 December 2006, the National Assembly adopted at first reading two bills on the election of Members of the European Parliament from the Republic of Bulgaria. The bills are in line with the Treaty on Bulgaria's Accession to EU. Pursuant to the Treaty, Bulgaria is to hold elections for MEPs by direct universal suffrage until 31 December 2007.
