European Parliament President, Hungarian and Cyprus Parliament Presidents will attend the celebrations on the occasion of Bulgaria's EU membership

European Parliament President Josep Borrell, Hungarian National Assembly Speaker Katalin Szili and Cyprus House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias will be among the guests attending the celebrations organised by the National Assembly on the occasion of Bulgaria's accession to the European Union.

The European Parliament Rapporteur on Bulgaria, Geoffrey van Orden, and EU-Bulgaria Joint Parliamentary Committee Co-Chair Catherine Guy-Quint will also attend the celebrations.

On 1 January 2007, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski and the foreign guests will attend a solemn ceremony at which the flags of Bulgaria and the European Union will be hoisted in front of the Unknown Soldier Monument in Sofia. Later in the day, they will attend a festive New Year concert under the motto "Bulgaria Greets Europe" at the National Palace of Culture. Works from all EU Member States will be played there, and on behalf of the newly admitted Bulgaria and Romania "Hora Staccato" by Dinicu - Vladiguerov will be performed.

On 29 December 2006, at 4.30 p.m., National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski will receive the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Hungarian Republic Katalin Szili. After the meeting the two will make statements for the media.

On 2 January 2007, at 11 a.m., in connection with the case of the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor in Libya, European Parliament rapporteur on Bulgaria, Geoffrey van Orden, EU-Bulgaria Joint Parliamentary Committee Co-Chairs Catherine Guy-Quint and Atanas Paparizov will give a news conference at the National Assembly.

On 1 and 2 January 2007, in connection with Bulgaria's EU accession, the flags of Bulgaria and the European Union will be suspended from the facades of the parliamentary buildings and as from 3 January, they will be permanently displayed above the main entrance of the National Assembly.
