"The 40th National Assembly has performed its main national task becoming one of the essential factors for Bulgaria's accession to the European Union," National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski said at his first meeting with parliamentary journalists for 2007.

The briefing on the subject of: "National Assembly's agenda during its first European session" took place on 9 January 2007 at the National Assembly building.

Among Parliament's legislative priorities during the upcoming fifth plenary session, Pirinski highlighted the fourth amendment to the Constitution, changes to the Rules of Organisation and Procedure of the National Assembly, a new Civil Procedure Code, amendments to the Penal Procedure Code and to the Penal Code, the Election of Members of the European Parliament Act, amendments to the Local Elections Act, as well as legislative changes addressing the areas of economy, health care, social policy and education.
