National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski met with Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi

On 17 January 2007, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski met with Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi and the delegation accompanying him. The Italian Prime Minister is paying a one-day official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.
The bilateral cooperation in development of the region and the future of the Constitution for Europe were among the highlights of the talks.
A strong accent was put on the two countries' participation with mutually agreed positions in the cooperation process in the region of the Western Balkans.
The common aspiration of Bulgaria and Italy to develop infrastructure projects was pointed out and the importance of the Transport Corridor VIII infrastructure project was underlined in particular.
The case of the Bulgarian medics sentenced to death in Libya was also discussed between Pirinski and Prodi.
