The National Assembly commemorated the victims of the Holocaust with one minute silence

On 9 March 2007, the National Assembly marked the memory of the victims of the Holocaust with one minute silence. On the eve of the 64th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews on 10 March, the parliamentarians expressed their deep appreciation for the deed of the democratic Bulgarian society which had set against the sending of the Bulgarian Jews to the Nazi concentration camps during World War Two.

At the beginning of the plenary sitting National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski made a statement on the occasion of the anniversary.

At 11.00 a.m., National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski and MPs laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial plaque in memory of the victims of the Holocaust near the Parliament building.

Attending the commemorative ceremony, organised by the Jewish community in Sofia, were the Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Noah Gal-Gendler, Israeli citizens of Bulgarian origin, as the former Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria Emanuel Zisman, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
