Europe day - Declaration
09/05/2007
The National Assembly adopted a declaration on the occasion of Europe Day, 9 May, marked for the first time after Bulgaria's accession to the European Union.
The declaration says that Bulgaria and its Parliament, as part of the united European family, celebrate 9 May with a feeling of satisfaction with the country's EU accession.
The idea about Europe, embodying the hope for peace and understanding, and which is materialized via the unification within the EU, is vital and active. It became stronger after the split of Europe was overcome and the Union was enlarged, the declaration reads.
The MPs declared their determination to continue working for the establishment of Europe as a community of peace and freedom, democracy and rule of law, mutual respect and shared responsibility, prosperity and security, tolerance and commitment, justice and solidarity.
The declaration calls on the political forces to focus their election campaigns on the problems of Bulgaria as part of the united Europe and on citizens to vote actively in the country’s first elections for members of the European Parliament.
