Addressing Members of Parliament on the 2nd anniversary of the constituting of the 40th National Assembly, Georgi Pirinski stressed the considerable amount of legislative work accomplished by Parliament

Since its constituting on 11 July 2005, the 40th National Assembly has held 293 plenary sittings, adopting 391 laws, including 243 laws in relation to harmonization of the Bulgarian legislation with the acquis communautaire, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski said at the beginning of the plenary sitting on 11 July 2007. He addressed Members of Parliament on the 2nd anniversary of the constituting of the 40th National Assembly.
Until 1 January 2007, the lawmakers adopted 301 laws, of which 197 related to harmonization of the Bulgarian legislation with the acquis communautaire. Pirinski underscored that two amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria and five codes - the Penal Procedure Code, the Insurance Code, the Tax Insurance Procedure Code, the Administrative Procedure Code and the Code of Civil Procedure - have been among the acts adopted by Parliament. Forty-nine of the laws were completely new.
National Assembly Chairman reported that 82 plenary sittings have been dedicated to parliamentary control (question time), which totalled 253 hours and 40 minutes. Members of the Council of Ministers have answered to 1,198 questions and 412 interpellations out of the 1,360 questions and 579 interpellations.
"We are still in debt to Bulgarian citizens, first of all, in terms of the public image that the National Assembly has presented," Pirinski said in conclusion.
