On 12 July 2007, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski received the President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesic, who is paying an official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov.
The high assessment given to the development of relations between Bulgaria and Croatia was reiterated in the talks by Pirinski and Mesic.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation established between the Parliaments of Bulgaria and Croatia and shared the position that in Croatia's negotiations with the EU and the new stage in the South Eastern European Co-operation Process relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries will be further intensified.
President Mesic said that Croatia is highly interested in drawing on Bulgaria's European experience. He underlined his country's wish to join the European Union and the European prospect for the rest of Western Balkans countries.
National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski noted the new Bulgaria's responsibility hosting the Secretariat for Parliamentary Cooperation in South East Europe and confirmed Bulgaria's readiness to provide expert assistance to the countries from the region in their negotiating process with the EU.
According to Pirinski and Mesic, both countries have an untapped potential for cooperation in trade and economy, culture, science and tourism.
