Seventh plenary session of the 40th National Assembly was opened

On 12 September 2007, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski opened the seventh plenary session of the 40th National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria.

"During its autumn plenary session, the Bulgarian Parliament will have the responsibility to adopt acts implementing the law-making programme of the Council of Ministers and transposing the acquis communautaire, as well as acts submitted by MPs," Pirinski said at the beginning of Wednesday's plenary sitting. "At the same time, we have the task to take part in the constituting of important state bodies relating to judiciary and to elect members of the Constitutional Court and other institutions," he added.

Leaders of all parliamentary groups made statements to outline their priorities during the new political season.

Attending the opening of the plenary session were Deputy Prime Ministers Ivailo Kalfin, Daniel Valtchev and Emel Etem.

On the principle of rotation, Ms. Ekaterina Michaylova of the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Parliamentary Group will be Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly during the new plenary session.
