The official visit to Bulgaria paid by the Lithuanian parliamentary delegation led by Viktoras Muntianas, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, started on 10 October 2007.

The delegation met with National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski. Attending the meeting were also National Assembly Deputy Chairman Younal Loutfi, parliamentary Economic Policy Committee Deputy Chairman Petar Kanev, Head of the Parliamentary Bulgaria-Lithuania Friendship Group Yasen Popvasilev, Head of the Delegation to the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative Boyko Boev and Agriculture and Forestry Committee Chairman Vassil Kalinov. Among the Lithuanian guests were representatives of the Economic Policy Committee, State Administration Committee and Foreign Policy Committee of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

Bulgaria's and Lithuania's will to develop active and friendly bilateral relations was reaffirmed in the talks between Pirinski and Muntianas.

The role of relations between the two parliaments was stressed in the conversation, as well as the fruitful cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees.

National Assembly Chairman Pirinski pointed out that there are many issues which are topical for the two parliaments - as EU-related legislation, regional cooperation, infrastructure policy in Europe, agriculture, investment legislation and the EU Reform Treaty.

Later on, Pirinski and Muntianas laid wreaths at the Unknown Soldier Monument.

On 11 October 2007, Viktoras Muntianas, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, will deliver a speech in the plenary hall of the National Assembly. Then the two parliament leaders will make statements for the media.

The programme of the visit of the Lithuanian parliamentary delegation envisages also meetings with the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee and European Affairs Committee and a visit to the town of Plovdiv.

On 12 October 2007, Viktoras Muntianas and the delegation he is leading to Bulgaria will meet with Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev and will be received by President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov.
