National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski - Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz - Meeting

National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski met Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary Kinga Göncz on 12 October 2007. The Hungarian Foreign Minister is paying a visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of her Bulgarian counterpart Ivailo Kalfin.

Both sides shared the opinion that the deep historical relations between Bulgaria and Hungary, as well as the EU membership of the two countries open up genuine prospects for
deepening contacts in all areas of bilateral cooperation, and especially for active investment cooperation, for boosting trade and economic relations, as well as for partnerships between towns and regions.

The role of regional cooperation and the contribution of regional organisations for EU's general development were among the subjects under discussion during the meeting.

National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski expressed hope that hosting the Secretariat for Parliamentary Cooperation in South East Europe the Bulgarian Parliament would contribute to the development of the regional cooperation in South East Europe.

Ms Göncz stressed that Hungary attaches great importance to the role of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, in which Bulgaria has been a key factor, as well as to the prospects for cooperation among the Danube countries.
