Bulgaria and Russia have a rich common historical heritage

On March 3rd, National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski met with the delegation of the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federal Assembly , headed by the Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federal Assembly, Sergey Mironov. The delegation is on a 3 days official visit on the occasion of the celebrations for March 3rd and the 130 th Anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria.
On this meeting Georgi Pirinski and Sergey Mironov noted that the two countries have a rich common historical heritage continuing to this date. It has been noticed that the two countries should continue to develop the relations in all fields and in the trade and regional connections between the two countries in particular, in which there are traditions and potential for further development.
It has been mentioned that the recent visit to Bulgaria of former President Putin has confirmed the new directions of the bilateral relations in which the two legislative bodies of Bulgaria and the Russian Federation could play a decisive role. Bulgaria and Russia enter a new period when social and economic development will be the main focus of activity of the legislative assemblies of the two countries. The priorities will be the health care and retirement systems development

The development in the area of culture and education as an unique domain of cooperation between the two countries was also emphasized. Next year 2009 will be the Year of Bulgaria in Russia and the event will be marked by a National Exhibition of Bulgaria, as well as other cultural events exploring the dissemination of the Slavic alphabet and culture.
The visit of the Russian parliamentarian delegation continued in Pleven, where it attended the celebrations of the National Day of Bulgaria - March 3rd and the 130th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Ottoman Yoke.
The programme foresees also meetings with the Republic of Bulgaria President, Georgi Purvanov, Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivailo Kalfin.
