The National Assembly Approves on First Reading Amendments in The Defence and Armed Forces Act

On its sitting on March 7, 2008 the National Assembly approved on first reading the amendments in the Defence and Armed Forces Act. The amendments foresee the cancellation of the principle of voluntary participation of the professional military in missions and operations abroad. The changes are required by the transformation of the Bulgarian army into a professional one. The participation of professional military personnel in missions abroad becomes mandatory on the day of start of duty.
The amendments aim at a creation of a completely new regulatory framework to ensure the smooth participation of the Bulgarian armed forces in international missions and operations abroad.
The National Assembly discussed on first reading a Bill on the establishment of a Bulgarian Banc for Development. The tasks of the future Bank will be to improve the economic, export and technological potential of the small and medium enterprises of Bulgaria and to facilitate their financing and their access to the funds of the European union.
The MPs decided to lengthen the term of the Ad-Hoc Committee of inquiry for investigation on the Kujovoch case until its complete clarification.
During the time for parliamentary control, inquiries of MPs were answered by Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev and Ministers Radoslav Gaydarski, Plamen Oresharski, Petar Mutafchiev, Asen Gagauzov and Emilia Maslarova.
