Georgi Pirinski and the Greek's Parliament Chairman Dimitrius Siufas share the opinion that relations between Greece and Bulgaria are an example of good neighborly relations.
The National Assembly Chairman and his Greek counterpart met on 17 March 2008, during his official visit paid at the invitation of Dimetrius Siufas. Georgi Pirinski was accompanied by Georgi Yurukov (Coalition for Bulgaria), President of Bulgarian - Greek friendship group and parliamentary members Georgi Bojinov(Coalition for Bulgaria), Stanimir Iltchev(National Movement Simeon II)and Assia Mihaylova (United Democratic Forces).
Relations between Athens and Sofia, the political situation on the Balkans and the cooperation between the parliamentary committees of Bulgaria and Greece were discussed. The focal point has been the further strengthening of the relations between the two parliaments and the possibilities for cooperation in the framework of the Mediterranean partnership as well as further intensification in the contacts of the countries in the Black Sea Region and the European Union. Both sides expressed their grief caused by the tragic incident in Albania, where an explosion in a munitions depot led to the death of at least 15 persons and more than 250 were injured.
In his statement for the Media Georgi Pirinski said that new prospects for development and deepening of the bilateral relations are opening - important not only for the two countries, but for the Region as well. The relations between Bulgaria and Greece are stable and enlarging for the benefit of the two states and their peoples, stressed Dimitrius Siufas. Both countries are members of the same family and Greece was one of the first states to support the participation of Bulgaria in the European Union and NATO institutions.
The Bulgarian delegation had meetings with Georgiou Papandreou, President of PASOK, Alexandra's Malavazos, President of the leftist Radical Coalition, as well as with representatives of the Greek Communist party and the People's Orthodox Union.
National Assembly Chairman met in the Greek capital with Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and with the Republic of Greece President, Karlos Papoulias. He met also with Yannis Valinakis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Beatitude Ieronimos, the Archbishop of Athens and Greece.
