Bulgaria is Gaining Reputation as an Active and Responsible EU Member, Dr. Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag, Stated at Their Meeting with National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski in Berlin

Bulgaria is gaining a name as an active, responsible and constructive member of EU, which stands behind the common European goals, stressed Dr. Norbert Lammert at their meeting with National Assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski in Berlin. Mr. Pirinski visited the Federal Republic of Germany on 7-9 April 2008. Dr. Lammert stated also that our country shows a great sense of responsibility and commitment to the common European goals and challenges and is undergoing an impressive economic progress.

During his visit in the German capital the Speaker of the National Assembly met with the Federal Foreign Office Minister of State Gernot Erler, with Hubertus Hail, Secretary General of the German Social Democratic Party and with “Friedrich Ebert” Foundation’s President, Mr. Anke Funks.

Mr. Pirinski and the Federal Foreign Office Minister of State discussed issues regarding the future cooperation in the Black Sea – Danube area as well as the challenges faced by all countries in the region in their future development and European integration in the context of the recent NATO Summit in Bucarest. Chairman Pirinski reaffirmed once again the Bulgarian position to support the European perspective for along with continuing its active relations with Serbia. At the same time Bulgaria together with Croatia and Hungary has taken the decision to establish official relations with Kosovo, thus aiming at implementing the European standards in a multi ethnic society.

A special focus in the programme was devoted to Chairman Pirinski’ meetings with renowned representatives in the field of culture and science from the Bulgarian Community in Germany and with German intellectuals. Georgi Pirinski took part in the discussion themed: “Projects in the fields of European Policy and EU Enlargement”, organized by Bertelsmann Foundation.
During his visit to Munich Georgi Pirinski confered with the President of the Landtag of the German Province of Bavaria, Alois Glück and with the State Minister and Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery Eberhard Sinner. He met with political and business community representatives from Bavaria in the Ministry of Economy.

National Assembly Chairman opened an exhibition in Munich entitled “Bulgaria in its full shine” in the building of the Bavarian Landtag. The exhibition presents the history of Christianity on Bulgarian lands and the cultural monuments under the protection of UNESCO in Bulgaria.

In the city of Regensburg Georgi Pirinski met with the Mayor Hans Shaidinger and inscribed his name in the Golden Book of the City. He also laid wreaths at the memorial plate of St. Methodius in the Old Chapel Basilica in the center of the city and conferred with representatives of the Bulgarian Cultural Society in Regensburg.
