Parliament Approves Proposed by Prime Minister Government Structural and Staff Changes

National Assembly approved on its sitting, April 24 th 2008 ,structural and personnel changes in the Government. The structural changes were voted with 154 “for” and 72 “against”, without any abstentions. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supply and The Ministry of State Policy for Disasters and Accidents were renamed to Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Emergency Situations respectively. The number of Deputy prime ministers increased from 3 to 4.
MPs adopted the staff changes in the Council of Ministers with 155 “pro” and 74 “con” without abstentions. Meglena Plugchieva was nominated for Deputy prime minister in charge of coordinating the Government activities with regards to European Funds absorption. The present floor leader of the Parliamentary Group “Coalition for Bulgaria” Mihail Mikov was appointed as Minister of Interior, Evgenii Gelev will head the Ministry of Defense and Valery Tsvetanov is the new Minster of Agriculture and Food.
Former incumbents Rumen Petkov, Radoslav Gaidarski, Vesselin Bliznakov , Nihat Kabil and Emel Etem were released from office. Emel Etem was appointed as the new Minister of Emergency Situations.
The newly elected Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva and the rest of the appointed ministers took oath.
