National Assembly Chairman Inaugurated the Exhibition Honoring the 160th Anniversary of Hristo Botev’s Birthday Titled: “Truth is Sacred, Freedom is Cherished”

Personal pad and documents, showing the most important life events and works of Hristo Botev as a poet and revolutionary were on display at the exhibition, opened by Chairman Pirinski in the National Library “St. St.. Cyril and Methodius”.
The Speaker of parliament greeted the curators of the exhibition – both the National library and the National Foundation “Hristo Botyov”. He said that the exhibition giave us the opportunity to get in touch with the relics, sacred to every Bulgarian, of the great poet. He pointed that the exhibition follows the poet’s life from the roots in his native town, to the picks of his creative and revolutionary activity, to his death.
I have no doubt that his legacy is alive in the minds of contemporary Bulgarians, he added. Together with other objects, a serious interest evokes the poet’s personal pad. Chairman Pirinski recalled that a year ago an authentic copy of this document was published. The content of the pad represents, in a condensed way, everything Botev had aspired to say.
During the opening Georgi Pirinski greeted the library staff on the occasion of their annual professional Day. In the next week the Library will mark with several events the importance of the institution, in the life of the Bulgarian society, throughout its history.
The exhibition under the title“ Truth is sacred, freedom is cherished” displays for the first time many precious original documents, owned by the Library, related to Botev., said the National Library Head, prof. Boriana Hristova. She added that the aim of the curators was to give the visitors the opportunity to have a closer look to the most important moments in the poet’s life and deeds. The head of the National Library was presented with an honorary diploma and a plaquette by the National Foundation “Hristo Botyov”. The award is given to the library for its contributions in preserving the works of Botev to this century.
The exhibition is under the patronage of National assembly Chairman Georgi Pirinski. Year 2008 is declared Hristo Botev’s Year.
