The Chair of the National Assembly welcomed the participants in the Conference at its opening on 12 November, 2008. The event is held under his patronage and is organized by the State University Emporia’s, USA, Department of library and information management, Sofia University Chair of library sciences, research and cultural policies, the Bulgarian National Library “St. Cyril and Methodius” and the Bulgarian Union of the employees in the Library and IT field.

In his address, Mr. Pirinski said that the subject of the Conference was topical and would bring about serious discussions and analysis. He added that while serving as chair of the National Assembly he was convinced how important for the success of legislature adequate information was. In his words, information today is not simply necessary but how we use it is of crucial importance for the future OF our societies, for every individual and for the life on earth.


The Conference is attended by more than 110 foreign guests from 30 countries. Other topics to be discussed are: “ The access to cyber space”, “Cyber space organization, classification and research”, “IT literacy and life long education”, “IT industry and knowledge management”, “Digital and virtual libraries”.
