He emphasized the fact that Bulgaria is party to most of the important international agreements in this field and implements strictly the measures for their enforcement and control.
He noted that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted in 1948, continues to be an inspiration for the nations and the international community to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms. He added that in the course of the 60 years, after the Declaration, the United Nations Organization has adopted more than 90 agreements and declarations on a broad range of issues concerning the protection of human rights.
He also said that after the democratic changes in 1989, the protection and observance of human rights and citizens’ fundamental freedoms has become one of the first priorities on the political agenda of Bulgaria, both at home and internationally. The Bulgarian Constitution of 1991 has adopted the most important, universal and European standards in the field of human rights. The active participation of our country in the Council of Europe and the European Union stimulates additionally their introduction into Bulgarian legislation and the enforcement of their implementation.
