In a letter to the chair of the Bulgarian parliament, Georgi Pirinski, the Association expressed its great satisfaction with the support received for its efforts against diabetes. The letter extends gratitude to all parliamentary members, who voted in favor of the Declaration against the spread and for the control of the diabetes in Bulgaria.

“This is a considerable achievement for Bulgaria and a decisive step in support of the prevention, the effective treatment and the individual conquer of the disease. It comes as a result of the concerted efforts of the whole community, engaged with helping people with this ailment to live with dignity and to ease their social integration.” says the letter, signed by the association’s president, Dimiter Bogdanov.

The Declaration, adopted by the National assembly on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day, shows the commitment of the Bulgarian deputies to fight this socially significant, for Bulgaria, illness. The spread in the country amounts to 7, 6 % of the population and is among the first on the morbidity list. In the world, due to complications from diabetes, every ten seconds a person is dying. The hope is that the launch of a national program and action plan is going to prevent and control the disease and ultimately decrease its occurrence, and expenditures for treatment, states the Declaration. The latter also points out the need for information campaigns to increase the public awareness, regarding the disease.
