During its Tenth Session, the 40th National Assembly has adopted 59 laws, 43 Resolutions and 4 Declarations and has spent 41 hours on Parliamentary Control

As far as legislative work, the report shows:

During its tenth session the 40th National Assembly has adopted 59 laws, 43 resolutions and 4 declarations. Among the adopted laws 20 are connected to the continuing process of the European integration of Bulgaria, 14 represent ratification documents of international agreements, where Bulgarian membership is involved. This information is contained in the report prepared by the parliamentary Legislation and Parliamentary Control Directorate.
During this last Session, in the period between September 6 and December 17, 2008, 116 bills were moved, 74 by parliamentary members and 42 by the Council of Ministers.
Among the new laws passed are the Law on the prevention and disclosure of conflicts of interest, the Law on the National System of the Pan European 112 Emergency Call Number, the Law on the Safeguard and Sustainability of the State Pension System, the Law on the Labor Inspection and the Competition Protection Law. Many laws have been amended.
During the 10th Session, the National Assembly has passed 47 resolutions. In the same period 9 draft resolutions were tabled and 4 were adopted. The National Assembly has addressed the nation on the occasion of the 100th anniversary since the Declaration of the Independence of Bulgaria, on the occasion of the International Diabetes Day and due to the violence committed against the Bulgarian journalist Ognyan Stefanov during the local elections in November 2008 in the town of Petritch.

The balance for the whole 2008 is 159 adopted laws, 150 resolutions passed, as well as 8 declarations. 48 of the laws passed by the parliament represent ratifications of international agreements in which Bulgaria is a party. The draft laws considered in parliament throughout 2008 amount to 315 partly moved by PMs, partly by the Council of Ministers. The number of rejected bills is 34.
Since its beginning, the 40th NA has adopted 616 laws, 478 resolutions and 25 declarations. 314 of the laws are directly related to the European Union integration of Bulgaria.
The number of bills submitted for consideration by the NA amounts to 1158 – 609 submitted by MPS. The number of the rejected bills is 159.

As far as the work executed on parliamentary control:

The NA has spent more than 41 hours to hear and debate answers on questions and inquiries on different issues raised by MPs. Parliamentary committees have conducted 54 hearings on matters regarding European affairs, defense, health care, fight against corruption, public order and national security, labor and social policy, disaster and emergency issues. During the 10th Session, the number of questions and inquiries forwarded by MPs were 193 and 14 respectively. Written answers were given to 88 questions and 14 inquiries, the others have received oral responses.
The highest number of questions was addressed to PM Sergey Stanishev, followed by the Minister of Agriculture, by the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of the Environment and Waters.
During the whole 2008 the number of questions moved by members of parliament amounts to 678 questions and 335 inquiries.
