On 12 July 2003 will be 12 years since the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. The President of the National Assembly marked the occasion by opening the plenary session with a brief speech stressing the role of the Constitution as a safeguard for the peaceful transition to democracy and market economy. The forthcoming EU and NATO accession as well as the problems in judiciary demand changes in the Constitution for the good of Bulgaria and her citizens, he said.
