The Chairman of the National Assembly Georgi Pirinski Meets the President of Slovenia Danilo Turk

The National Assembly chairman Georgi Pirinski met on 19 May 2009 the President of Slovenia Danilo Turk, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.

Georgi Pirinski welcomed the Slovenian head of state with the words that his visit was timely and useful. He underscored that the visit was continuing the established good traditions in the bilateral relations between the two countries and the national parliaments of Bulgaria and Slovenia.
The Speaker of parliament acquainted Turk with the legislative activity of the 40th National Assembly, noting that the challenges caused by the world economic crisis remain priority concern for the parliament and the society as a whole.The crisis, according to him, required a thorough analysis and appropriate solutions. He emphasized that in the year 2009 the National Assembly marks the 130th year since the first Constituent Assembly and the adoption of the Constitution of Tarnovo.

The Slovenian president showed interest in Bulgaria’s participation in the processes of cooperation in Southeast Europe and the Black Sea region and praised the important role, played by Bulgaria.
In response the chairman of the National Assembly pointed that the Bulgarian parliament hosts the Regional Secretariat for parliamentary cooperation in Southeast Europe and that the country leads a consistent and committed policy aimed at strengthening the regional partnership. Georgi Pirinski noticed that in order to use the potential of the region to a maximum degree active policy is called for, aimed at developing regional transport infrastructure, including the construction of the strategic Transport Corridor No. 8.

Another important topic discussed between the chairman of the National Assembly and the Slovenian president was the process of strengthening the democratic principles of the European Union and the effective functioning of its institutions to the benefit of the European citizens.
