Parliament extends till year end the term to prove possession of home-purchase saving deposits 28 May 2009

At its plenary sitting held on 28 May 2009 the National Assembly adopted at second reading amendments to the Act to Settle the Housing Problems of Long-standing Home-purchase Savings Depositors. The amendments envisage extension of the term for proving possession of home-purchase saving deposits until 31 December 2009. Within this term, those depositors of long-standing home-purchase savings, opened prior to 31 December 1990 and having been deposited for more than 5 years, who have not claimed their rights, could prove before the local municipal commissions possession of such savings and right to compensation. The amended act shall be effective as of 20 May 2009. By 30 November 2009 inclusive mayors of municipalities have to approve the final lists of persons entitled to compensation.
Entitled to compensation under this act are citizens who do not own either in the country or abroad housing estates or villas eligible for permanent residing, or if they own such, their value plus the value of their ownership in the form of pecuniary means, cash deposits, vehicles and farming lands does not exceed BGN 60, 000. To be considered eligible for compensation, the claimant citizens shall not own properties of total value exceeding BGN 60,000 as pecuniary means in the form of bank deposits, shares or dividends, as works of art, numismatics, philately, vehicles, farming lands, factories, shops, ateliers or any other fixed capital or means of circulation.
The Members of Parliament re-elected Ivan Iskrov as Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank with a new 6-year term of office. The new term shall start on 10 October 2009 when Ivan Iskrov’s current tenure as BNB Governor shall expire.
The parliament elected Ms Lidia Rumenova a member to the National Audit Office.
The National Assembly held a minute of silence in memory of the people killed in a heavy traffic accident near the town of Yambol. The National Assembly Speaker, Georgi Pirinski appealed to all M.P.s from Yambol Region as well as to the members of relevant parliamentary committees to get familiarized with the course of rescue operations and come up with proposals for measures and support by the National Assembly, if needed.
