The National Assembly has canceled its summer recess. The parliamentary committees are to start working on priority bills

The decision to cancel the summer recess was voted by the National Assembly at the sitting on 30 July 2009. The decision directs the standing committees of the National Assembly to start their meetings with the aim to prepare the necessary reports regarding the legislative acts that need to be considered soon by parliament. During this period the National Assembly won’t hold plenary sittings.

In her statement for the Bulgarian News Agency, the President of the National Assembly, Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva, stated that she would not rule out sittings of the Assembly to be held in the period between 1 – 21 August 2009 if the public interest would so require.

The Economic Policy, Energy and Tourism Committee of the National Assembly will be headed by Martin Dimitrov (Blue Coalition). For Deputy Chairpersons the NA has elected Stoyan Mavrodiev(GERB), Mario Tagarinski (OLJ) and Yordan Tsonev (MRF). The committee is to have 26 members: 13 – from GERB, 2 (Blue Coalition), 2 (ATAKA), 4 (CB), 4 (MRF) and 1 from (OLJ).

Ivan Vulkov from GERB was elected to chair the Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Committee. The parliament nominated for this committee 3 Deputy Chairpersons i.e. Petar Mutafchiev (CB), Ivan Ivanov (BC) and Svilen Kraychev (GERB). The membership will consist of 20 MPs: 10 from GERB, 1 from the Blue Coalition, 1 from Order, Lawfulness, Justice, 3 from Coalition for Bulgaria , 3 from (MRF) and 2 from ATAKA.
