The President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva met on August 27, 2009 the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.

The state head of Turkmenistan expressed satisfaction with his visit to our country and defined the talks held with President Georgi Purvanov and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov as useful and fruitful. At the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov stated that his country was interested in a long term cooperation that could bring about concrete results in all fields of the bilateral relations and that would be beneficial to both peoples.

The Chairwoman of the Bulgarian parliament acquainted the guest with the legislative priorities of the 41st National Assembly. She confirmed the will of the lawmakers to held fast and efficient reforms, in order to guarantee safety to every Bulgarian citizen, increase of incomes and economic progress. She noticed that the main challenge for the government, at the present moment, was to minimize the negative effects of the world financial and economic crisis.

Both the President of Turkmenistan and Bulgaria’ Speaker of Parliament shared the opinion that their two parliaments could substantially contribute to the enlargement of the partnership between the two countries. They also underscored the necessity of establishing more tied contacts between the parliamentary committees of the two legislatures.

During the meeting, Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva, noticed that the visit of the Turkmen president was held in the year when Bulgarians were celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly and the adoption of the first Tarnovo Constitution. She pointed out that the Fundamental law, passed on April 16, 1879, was a historic act, reestablishing Bulgaria as a state with a new political future and tracing the way of the country towards modern European statehood.
