Children participating in the initiative of the Bulgarian Red Cross for responsible and prudent behavior on the road and reduced casualties from road accidents handed on September 14, 2009 the President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva an appeal addressed to the Bulgarian society. The World First Aid Day, which this year is titled "First Aid for humanity" is an initiative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The day is celebrated every second Saturday of September. There is an alarming statistics, showing that children and young people are among the most vulnerable and unprotected road users.

"We appeal to you today, the day of the first school bell to remind you that with your responsible choices and safe driving, we can avoid the pain of loss and suffering of tens of our friends," wrote the children. They call on deputies, ministers, public figures, parents and teachers to have safe and prudent behavior on the roads.

We have the will and determination to defend our demands for easy movement of children to school and to their playgrounds, said the chair of parliament Tsetska Tsacheva. She assured children that in her face they have a fervent supporter and friend. Such initiatives should not only be held at the beginning of the school year because we are responsible for the safety of our children constantly, said the speaker of the National Assembly.

The children came at the National Assembly accompanied by the Bulgarian Red Cross President Hristo Grigorov and the Director General of the Organization, Sofia Stoimenova. Hristo Grigorov said that the problem with the war on the roads can not be solved by the institutions alone and that the young people’s appeal needs the commitment of the entire society.
