Bulgaria has the will to implement the recommendations of the European Commission in the areas of Justice and Home Affairs , said Diana Wallis,Vice-President of the European Parliament, during her visit to the National Assembly

The Vice-President of the National Assembly Atanas Semov met in parliament on September 25, 2009 with the Vice-President of the European Parliament Diana Wallis. During the meeting, which was attended also by National Assembly Deputy Chairman Georgi Pirinski, the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of EU funds Chairman Svetlin Tanchev and by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Dimitar Chukarski.

Diana Wallis is in Bulgaria to take part in a conference on the subject: “European legislation and practices in support of good governance decisions ", organized by the Bulgarian Association for European Law. At the conference she has presented the so called Stockholm EU Program on freedom, security and justice.
After the meeting with Bulgarian MPs, the Vice-President of the European Parliament stated for the media that Bulgaria has the enthusiasm and willingness to carry out the recommendations of the European Commission in the fields Justice and Home Affairs.

“From my visit in your country, I got the impression that there is in Bulgaria great enthusiasm and will to implement the measures suggested by the European Union, and I am confident that this is going to happen”, said the EP Vice-President. The most important thing is to work together as parliamentarians, in order to achieve the changes, said Diana Wallis.

The Vice-President of the Bulgarian parliament, Atanas Semov said that during the talks the two parties had discussed the closer cooperation between the National Assembly and the European Parliament. He added that Bulgaria intends to organize, in the month of November, a conference on the new role of the national parliaments in case the referendum in Ireland on the Lisbon Treaty goes successfully.

The Vice-President of the European Parliament Diana Wallis pointed out that in November, Europe will celebrate 20 years since the start of the changes. The European Parliament is planning to invite young people - peers to the changes, to take part in the events and expressed her conviction that young people from Bulgaria will take an active part .
