The Battles of Pleven remain forever a symbol of the European ideals for freedom and progress, for humanity and national dignity, noted the chair of parliament on the occasion of the 132-nd anniversary of the historic event, December 10, 2009 in Pleven.

In her speech she underscored that every year on December 10, moved with a sincere emotion, full with pride and admiration, the townspeople do recall, but also rethink again the greatness of the siege of Pleven. “Right here in this proud and patriotic Bulgarian city, we can state with confidence: "Our freedom starts from Pleven, freedom equates with the epic Battle of Pleven, Pleven is the proud name of the freedom of Bulgaria. This great historical truth is embedded forever in the memory of Bulgaria, and represents the infinite force of our present and the most faithful guide to our future”, said Tsetska Tsacheva.

“The fate has decided so that the way of ancient Bulgaria, a way marked by hardships and blood, back to the community of free and independent European nations and states should pass through this small and unknown until 1877 city – transformed in a memorial and museum”, said the Speaker of the parliament. According to Tsetska Tsacheva the muddy trenches, the invincible redoubts, the battlefields soaked in blood, have made the town of Pleven forever a pantheon of heroes.


The Speaker of parliament attended in Pleven a memorial service for the fallen soldiers, served by His Holiness the Metropolitan Bishop of Pleven Ignatius in front of the chapel -mausoleum “St. George the Victorious”. Tsetska Tsacheva participated in the inaugural ceremony of the plaque in honor of the fallen in the battles near Pleven in 1877 Ukrainian soldiers.
