The Council to the Chair of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva decided to follow on her proposal to set up a group composed by representatives of all the political forces in parliament, which in interaction with the structures of civil society to undertake steps for the construction of a Memorial, in the capital, to the founders who laid the grounds of modern Bulgaria.

At the beginning of the plenary sitting, February 10, 2010, the National Assembly Chair Tsetska Tsacheva addressed her colleagues on the occasion of the 131st anniversary of the opening of the Constituent Assembly - February 10, 1879.

She recalled that 131 years ago, on this very day, in Veliko Tarnovo was convened the Grand National Assembly. It had started the establishment of Bulgaria as a modern state. People’s representatives from all over Bulgaria gathered in the old capital and adopted the Tarnovo Constitution - the first Bulgarian Basic Law, said Tsetska Tsacheva.

The Speaker of the National Assembly noted that the idea of creating the Founding Fathers’ Memorial was first launched last year during the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly and the adoption of the Turnovo Constitution. “Today’s event is precisely the occasion to reaffirm the will and desire of the MPs of the 41st National Assembly to materialize this worthy and noble initiative”, added Tsetska Tsacheva.

In 2009 the National Assembly of Bulgaria marked with profound respect the 130th anniversary of the great work of the founding fathers, noted Tsetska Tsacheva. “Let us today, on this memorable date, we, the members of the 41st National Assembly, worship the memory of those great people who paved the way for our country to evolve as a modern European state”, she ended.
