The plenary sitting on April 16, opened with a short speech by National Assembly’s vice president Dr. Lachezar Ivanov, saying that on this day Bulgaria commemorates the 131st anniversary of the Tarnovo Constitution. In Bulgaria the date of April 16th is declared Day of the Constitution and the Lawyers’ Professional Holiday. Dr Ivanov congratulated all legal professionals on the occasion. “I believe everyone understands that now again we stand to reflect on the significance of the fundamental democratic principles, set out by the Tarnovo Constitution, and their modern expression laid down in the Republic of Bulgaria’s Basic Law of 1991”, the parliament’s vice-president said.

“I am convinced that with a high sense of civic duty and responsibility, professionalism and active efforts, the Bulgarian lawyers will satisfy the demand for strengthening the supremacy of and the rule of law in the life of our country, the law as a firm guarantee of the rights of the citizens and the state interests”, he added.
