Electronic Media Council to have five members in the future, decided by the National Assembly

The Broadcasting Act amendments were approved on May 5th, 2010 by the National Assembly on first reading. The latest changes reduce the number of the Council on Electronic Media members from nine to five. The act stipulates that three of them will be elected by the National Assembly, and two will be appointed by the President of Bulgaria. The period for member rotation on the presidential quota was set at 3 years instead of the present 2 years. The period for the members elected by the parliament remains the same – 2 years.

At the same sitting the National Assembly passed, at first reading, amendments to the Financial Supervision Commission Act. Members of this commission will also be reduced from seven to five, for a five year term of office.
