September 16

The exhibition titled “Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Technology” was opened in the building of the National Assembly by the President Tsetska Tsacheva and by the Chairman of BAS Acad. Nikolay Sabotinov.

The Parliament’s Chairperson noted that the exhibition is unique, demonstrating the highest achievements of Bulgarian scientists working in the Academy. She said that the state institutions value the high research and practical goals which BAS’s scholars and researchers set themselves. Tsacheva admitted that, for obvious objective reasons, the institutions are in debt to scientists. She voiced a hope that proper conditions will be created for scientists in Bulgaria to develop their best achievements in the country and abroad.

She noted that everyone visiting the National Assembly is welcome to look at the exhibition.

On display are the latest devices and equipment developed by BAS, including the large hadron collider in CERN, latest developments in weapons and alarm systems, newly developed cancer treatment devices, innovations developed by young scientists.

On display is one of the first security systems in the world with artificial intelligence and stand-alone sensors. The system is capable of assessing by itself the levels of danger of the guarded object.

On display is also one of the first security systems in the world with artificial intelligence and stand-alone sensors. The system is capable of assessing by itself the levels of danger of the guarded object.

Visitors to the exhibition can see the world's first helicopter shield which protects against Rocket-Propelled Grenades, as well as new types of explosives, mines and other defence and security equipment.

Other interesting exhibits are a remote reading and reporting electricity meter and a device which generates energy using sea waves.

One of the most interesting exhibits on display is a multifunctional "shadow" robot which aids elderly people in their homes. The robot can be given remote commands by the relatives of the elderly person, such as to remind him/her to
take their medicines. The robot can also follow orders, such as to bring a glass of water to his/her owner

The exhibition is open till September 24, 2010.
