National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov met today with the President of the Swiss Confederation Pascal Couchepin who pays an official visit to Bulgaria. The two discussed the process of harmonization of the Bulgarian legislation with the European one.

Switzerland admires the transition that Bulgaria has performed to join the European structures, the Swiss President stressed in the course of the meeting.

Bulgaria has adopted the due laws at a very good pace and all political forces have backed the changes related to the process of EU and NATO integration, Prof. Gerdjikov stated. Bulgaria recently closed the chapter on Justice and Home Affairs in its EU accession negotiations, he added.

Prof. Gerdjikov extended an invitation to the Presidents of the two Chambers of the Swiss Parliament to visit Bulgaria next year. According to him, the creation of a parliamentary group for friendship with Bulgaria in the Swiss Parliament would strengthen the relations between the two countries as well.
