The National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva laid January 4, 2011 flowers at the monument of the Tsar Liberator. She took part in the celebration of the 133rd anniversary of the liberation of Sofia as a result of the Russo-Turkish War. In January 4, 1878 Russian troops led by General Gurko entered Sofia.
This year's celebration began with public prayer held in the St Nedelya Church. The church was the venue of the first memorial service for those who died in the war, held after General Joseph Gourko led the Russian troops into the town. A religious procession was held from the church to the Monument to the Liberator King, where flowers were laid.
The celebration was organized by the Sofia Municipality, the association for friendship with Russia “Alexander Nevsky”, the “Heroes of Bulgaria” Foundation and the Sofia Metropolitan Church.
