11/01/2011

National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva received on January 11, 2011 the newly established "Honorary Diploma for Modern Parliamentarism” of the Institute of Modern Politics in Sofia.

The chairman of the Institute’s Board of Governors Borislav Tsekov stressed at the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament that the diploma is to be bestowed each year to one MP as an acknowledgment for his/her initiatives that have contributed to improving the transparency of the parliamentary institution, for the better participation of citizens and their organizations in the legislative process and for being active in the legislative and parliamentary protection of the civil rights and freedoms.

Borislav Tsekov stated that
the initiatives undertaken by the leadership of the 41st National Assembly related to improving the transparency of the parliamentary institution such as the establishment of public records reflecting important aspects of the MPs work, their votes and the legislative process as a whole are laudable.

President Tsetska Tsacheva said
she accepts the distinction as a recognition for the efforts of the 41st National Assembly and its leadership to provide more openness, transparency and accessibility of the civil society in the legislative process.

She asked for not one but more MPs to get the distinction each year, explaining that the parliament is a collective body needing the efforts of many to push for a new style of management. “Everything that happens is a merit of the majority” she concluded.
