National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva welcomed the participants in the annual conference of the Media Democracy Foundation. The conference was held on January 17, 2011 at the Center for Culture and Debate. The forum is organized in collaboration with the Media Program Department for South East Europe of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

“The harmonious manifestation of the link between government and media needs the thorough and critical analysis of the NGOs involved in the field. This is the only way to create and promote the standards of conduct that media and government are supposed to follow”, said the President of the National Assembly at the opening of the conference.

According to the chair of parliament, more and more young media researchers - undergraduate and graduate students - are involved with analysis of the media environment in Bulgaria. "The mind and sensitivity of this highly educated young generation is of utmost importance", stressed Tsetska Tsacheva. She added that young people, unencumbered by political affiliations of the past, provide in their analysis a much more accurate and positive picture of the relationship between government and media.

For me, as chair of the National Assembly, the in depth analysis of the parliamentary publicity is especially important. Is it “parliamentary” or is it "lobbyist"? Where is the boundary between the two? She pointed to these issues and proposed to the participants to take in their research a deeper look at the subject.

The book "Media and Power” was presented at the conference. It is a joint edition of the Media Democracy and the Conrad Adenauer Foundations.
