The National Assembly rejected on January 19, 2011 the veto of President Georgi Parvanov imposed on the Election Code. At the end of the new discussion 129 MPs supported the Code countering the presidential veto, 50 voted in favor and 8 MPs abstained.

Parliament has elected Hussein Halil Ismail as Deputy Ombudsman. In conformity with the Ombudsman’s Act the proposal for the post was put forward by the Ombudsman  Konstantin Penchev within two months after he took office. Mr. Penchev presented Mr. Halil’s qualifications indicating both his education and considerable experience working in NGOs for disable people would be of great benefit to the Ombudsman’s office. Mr. Ismail is a lawyer and has a second degree in public administration. He has worked as legal adviser and is member of  the Sofia city Bar Association.

At the end of the plenary meeting the Chair of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva informed the deputies that a letter asking for a special confidence vote on the overall policy of  the present government, headed by PM Boyko Borisov was put on file at the National Assembly. Pursuant to the Rules of Organization and Procedure of the National Assembly the deliberations on the confidence vote should begin on the next day after the receipt of the request. The debates and confidence vote are to be held on January 20th, 2011 at 9.00 am.
