The President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva made a statement on July 13, 2011 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. From the parliamentary rostrum the President of the national parliament stated that Bulgaria was among the first countries in Central and Eastern Europe that opted to embark on the path to post-totalitarian transformation, anchoring its democratic aspirations in a completely new constitutional text. That was a clear expression of political will for democracy through law in Bulgaria, underscored Tsetska Tsacheva.

She pointed out that the Bulgarian Constitution was subject to heated discussions upon adoption, neither is it undisputed today. Nevertheless, even in the conditions of institutional credibility crisis, the Constitution remains the pillar against which the Bulgarian citizens lean their anticipation of justice, freedom and security to prevail, stated the National Assembly President.

On a final note Tsetska Tsacheva stressed that today we have every ground to refer to the Bulgarian constitutional tradition and practice. And twenty years after the adoption of the Constitution our message will be the following: Freedom and prosperity of the Bulgarian society are only possible within the framework of law and upon ensuring equality of all Bulgarian citizens before the law.
