18/07/2011
The President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva met with the European Ombudsman Nikiforos Diamanduros. The Parliament has always maintained a very good dialogue with the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, underscored Ms Tsacheva. This institution proved of key necessity and importance for the development of democratic processes in our country, stated the National Assembly President.

In my capacity as European Ombudsman I maintain extremely good contacts with the relevant Bulgarian institution from its very establishment, stressed Nikiforos Diamanduros. This gives me every ground to argue that it has quickly become an important part of the European system. I value highly the work done by the Bulgarian Ombudsman and you could count on my support for strengthening the reputation of this institution.

In the course of the conversation it was underscored that the nature of complaints by Bulgarian claimants is very similar to those filed in the rest of the European countries. A substantial part of the complaints is related to administrative issues. According to Mr. Diamanduros, the Lisbon Treaty and the European Charter of Human Rights, signed by the European countries, provide vast opportunities for successful administrative reforms.

Nikiforos Diamanduros presented to the National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva the Report of the European Ombudsman translated into Bulgarian, pointing out that the document is published in 23 European languages.
