The parliament has elected Anastas Anastasov and Veneta Petrova-Markovska to sit as judges to the Constitutional Court of Bulgaria. There were four candidates running for the seats – Anastas Anastasov (nominated by the PG of PP GERB), Veneta Petrova-Markovska (proposed by independent deputies), Ekaterina Mihaylova (the Blue Coalition PG’s nomination) and Tatyana Varbanova (nominated by the Coalition for Bulgaria PG).
Anastas Anastasov received 122 “yes” votes, 1 against and 8 abstentions. Veneta Markovska obtained the highest number of votes – 127 “yes”, 13 against and 13 abtentions. Ekaterina Mihaylova has collected 41 “yes” votes, none against, 59 abstentions. Tatyana Varbanova received 57 favorable votes, 21 against and 69 abstentions. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms parliamentary group has not participated in the voting for Anastas Anastasov and Ekaterina Mihaylova.
