School education up to 16 years of age made mandatory with the adoption by parliament of the Preschool and School Education Act

The school education up to 16 years of age became mandatory with the passing by parliament of the Preschool and School Education Act. Children will start school when they become 7 years old, or at 6 at the discretion of their parents. 


At age 4 they will be obliged to go to kindergartens. The text was adopted with the votes of the GERB parliamentary group deputies,  the Ataka deputies and 4 independent Members of the Parliament. Against the provision voted the Coalition for Bulgaria, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and the Blue Coalition parliamentary groups.


The mandatory preschool education starts at the beginning of the school year when the child becomes 4 years old.
