The National Assembly has adopted  Declaration with regard to the  assault carried out upon the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Dr. Ahmed Dogan, on January 19th, 2013. The declaration was adopted with 92 “yes” votes, 5 “against” and 3 abstentions.

The document   condemns the attack against the long time leader  of Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ahmed Dogan, and calls on all political forces, social organizations and Bulgarian citizens in the country to distance themselves from this unprecedented act against a political leader.

We insist on the competent authorities to take on their duties and carry out complete and effective investigation on the case and to uncover the full truth about the causes and motives for this criminal act, reads further the declaration.

The document also voices indignation  at  “ the unprecedented cynicism of the attack on the leader of one of the main political parties in the democratic transition period of the country” and  expresses alarm on the deficiencies in the provision of security and protection of a high political forum.

The declaration underscores that this act is perceived not only as offence against a political leader, but against the high value of democracy as well, and stresses on the language of hatred as the main cause and prerequisite for such acts. It expresses deep conviction that human life is more valuable than political partisanship.
