Students from Koprivshtica, the native town of Petko Karavelov, were special guests at the National Assembly for the marking of the 110th year since the death of the great Bulgarian politician and statesman Petko Karavelov

Students and representatives from the initiative committee for the celebrations in Koprivshtica were welcomed to the plenary hall.

The President of the National Assembly met the guests and handed them a present on behalf of the parliament. The present is a photo edition of the transcripts of the Constituent Assembly. On behalf of the town, Iskra Puhova, director of the museums in Koprivshtica, handed as a present to the National Assembly a portray of Petko Karavelov.

At the beginning of the plenary sitting, the head of the National Assembly stressed that to honor and keep memory of the deeds of one of the founders of the Tarnovo Constitution, Member of the Constituent Assembly, Member of 9 regular National Assemblies and the President of three parliaments was an obligation for all parliamentarians. She noted February 6th was the day of the 110th year since the death of Petko Karavelov. On April 5th, 2013  his 170th birthday anniversary will be observed.

Tsetska Tsacheva, who is honorary patron of the celebrations, said the two anniversaries will be marked with different events to be held mostly in Karavelov’s native town Koprivshtica.

The initiative committee comprises the City Hall and Municipal Counselors of Koprivshtica and the Sofia Regional Administration. The events planned by the committee envisage opening of a bas-relief of Petko Karavelov in his native town, a scientific conference, exhibitions and student debates in schools bearing his name.
