Parliament elects Grozdan Iliev as Constitutional Court Judge

The Parliament has elected the former Deputy - Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation, Grozdan Iliev to fill the vacant post for judge of the Constitutional Court on its quota. Iliev was nominated by the GERB party parliamentary group. He was supported by 117 members of the parliament, 11 voted against and two deputies abstained. The GERB party candidate was opposed by the parliamentary groups of the Ataka party and the Blue Coalition. The parliamentary members of Coalition for Bulgaria took no part in the vote with the exception of one deputy who abstained. Members of the parliamentary group of Movement for Rights and Freedoms have not voted. At the yesterday’s sitting, the parliament amended the procedures for election of Constitutional Court judge on the quota of the National Assembly.
