Bulgaria’s President, Rosen Plevneliev, addresses the Nation and the National Assembly

The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev, delivered his address to the nation and to the National Assembly. In the latter the President said: “It should be our common commitment – of the political parties and the citizens - to not seek destabilization. Our citizens gave us a hand and we have the historic chance to regain their confidence”. The address of the president was delivered in the presence of the newly elected Bulgarian Patriarch Neofit and former presidents Petar Stoyanov and Georgi Parvanov.

“We have to give a chance for the elections to be well organized, I don’t want elections held on Palm Day or Eastern, as these are auspicious Christian holydays, which should not be loaded with political bigotry. Therefore, if the third mandate proves unsuccessful, the early elections will be held on May 12th, 2013, announced the head of the State.
In the last month the people went out on the streets and proved that there exist a strong civil society, which wants to be governed by decent people and  longs to live a better life. He addressed the protesters with the words: “You have already changed Bulgaria; you have changed the agenda of the society and have made the institutions move in the direction you had requested. Let us unveil the problems together and look for their solution."
Posen Plevneliev emphasized that currently it was everyone’s duty to preserve social piece and to work towards upgrading of what had been achieved. He has stated the key word for the caretaker government would be “stability”. Its constitution is forthcoming and its main responsibilities would be to ensure the smooth transition towards the next government of the country and the normal functioning of the state institutions.
He added the pensions will be upped from April 1, 2013 as planned and the state budget strictly implemented. 
According to him in the remaining time, the 41st National Assembly should focus on the tasks that may not be postponed and on the making of urgent decisions regarding the decrease of electricity prices and the relief in the social situation of Bulgarian citizens.
