The President of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, has taken part in the celebrations held in the town of Kalofer and at the site of the poet’s death, peak “Okolchitsa”. The commemorations are held every year on June 2nd, Day of Botev and of those who perished for the freedom of Bulgaria.

“The name of Hristo Botev is a symbol, a testimony of his time. His poetry and prose are inspiration for millions of Bulgarians”, stated the Speaker of the National Assembly at the solemn tattoo and roll call held in the evening at Kalofer. His poetry had been inspiration for those who in the Russo- Turkish war undertook the fight for the liberation of Bulgaria, his poetry had been inspiration for the Bulgarians in the two Balkan, the First and the Second World wars, he stated. This is because Botev is a symbol, a banner, a child of the Bulgarian people and of its infinite aspiration to justice and freedom, pointed out Mihail Mikov. He further added that Hristo Botev was a person of the 19th century, as well as of the 21st century, when Bulgaria is already Member of the European Union, because his deeds and his works put in action became unforgettable.

Parliament members and diplomats were present at the festivities.

The President of the National Assembly took on 2 June 2013 part in the celebrations held at the locality of peak Okolchitsa. The commemoration started with reenactment of the last fight of the rebels led by Botev and his perish. A prayer for Bulgaria was served by Bishop Kiprian and by priests from the Bishopric of Vratsa. The Metropolitan of Vratsa, Kalinik, blessed the many followers of Botev present. Flowers and wraths were laid on the monument at peak “Okoltchitsa”.
