The Parliament decided that the functions and structure of the "Combating Organized Crime" unit be transferred from the Ministry of the Interior to SANS. The MPs approved the amendments to the Law on State Agency "National Security" / SANS /.
The amendments restore the powers of the Agency to conduct investigations and regulate its activities in detention and search of individuals. It was decided that employees of the State Agency National Security can detain persons for whom there is evidence that they have committed offenses specified in Art. 4, para 1.
MPs voted the election and dismissal of the Chairman of the State Agency National Security to be vested in the Parliament, on the proposal of the Prime Minister. Following the election, the SANS Chairman will take an oath in front of the MPs. It was agreed that the Chairman shall have three rather than two deputies, as it is now. The Chairman must have at least 8 years of legal or professional experience and his deputies at least 5 years legal or professional experience.
The Mps further decided that the President is entitled to receive via the Prime Minister opinions and analyzes by the Chairman of the Agency on matters of foreign policy, national security.
During the first parliamentary oversight at the 42nd National Assembly replies to questions were given by Prime Minister Oresharski and his ministers Angel Naydenov, Hasan Ademov and Danail Papazov.
